Savings Calculators
At YBP we feel that most sites have simple calculators that will do in some circumstances but fall somewhat short of the real needs. Therefore, savings may fall short of the intended purpose.
It is sort of like looking for the cost of a house by checking how much a mortgage will cost per month after your down payment.
If, however, you forgot to include any of the following costs for lawyers, tax adjustments, and special insurance you could be in for a rough surprise.
You could also plan a trip but forget to include some possibilities like taxi rides, airport taxes, overweight luggage costs, airport parking for your car or fuel for a rental car.
You might also not realize how many people simply overspend on holidays.
You’re in Paris for the first time. You didn’t realize how many great clothing places there were. You weren’t coming back soon. You just had to have some of those great clothes. You’re back home now and the credit card bill came in. There are several hundred dollars for great clothes. The vacation just went over budget.
Our calculators are a bit more complex and have lists of costs that need to be checked out to make sure there are no surprises later. The lists themselves are extensive but you only use the categories you need. By having the categories though, you won’t likely miss any costs. Each calculator will also adjust automatically to any such changes as changing the total to be saved, the number of months to save, funds withdrawn from the savings or funds added to the savings.
The calculators can also be saved as drafts (test cases) or as real. Draft versions will be kept on the dashboard page only. Final plans will be kept on the dashboard as well but the info will be copied to the Savings section of the budget. Edits/up-dates to any of the calculated plans can be made via the budget or the dashboard.
Variable Income Adjuster Calculator
Many people receive variable income rather than a monthly salary. One month could be very good and another month very poor. What is needed to budget properly is to budget using an average. Unfortunately, using an average can be difficult at first. There needs to be some savings in place for those months when income is low. However, once there are some funds then it becomes reasonable to use an average. We have a calculator that provides a way to easily average your income and even slowly increase your savings.

Bad Debt Repayment Calculator
Missed a payment. Then you've accrued some bad debt. Owe credit card debt. Then you have bad debt. You owe any amount of money that wasn't planned or owe more than originally expected or planned for, than you have bad debt. Bad debt is basically debt that hasn't been planned for in a balanced budget. If the debts are small compared to your income then they can usually be paid off in a few months without ruining the household budget. But if they are not small then they will likely hinder the household budget and take many months or years to pay off. Making a plan to keep track of them and pay them off can be very tedious. We have a calculator that can keep track of the debt and the payments and suggest a monthly payment amount. The debt remains but the stress of managing the debt is reduced. The fact that the calculator is right in the budget also makes it more likely that you will remember to pay off the debt in a regular fashion within the budget also helps relieve stress.
